Apple Third Mobile PC Manufacturer Thanks to iPad
Millions of iPads sell every month, and it didn’t take much time for Apple to quickly become the third mobile PC vendor, thanks to its tablet’s impressive track record. A report published by DisplaySearch earlier today shows that when the iPad is grouped with netbooks, notebooks and competing tablets, Apple dominates the mobile PC market in North America, and ranks number three worldwide, right after HP and Acer, the current market leaders.
Overall, when both MacBooks and iPads are taken into account, Apple shipped more than 6 million mobile units during the last quarter, and currently enjoys a comfortable 12.4 percent share of the very fragmented mobile PC market. Also note that Apple now sells more iPads than MacBooks, and if singled out, the iPad represents an impressive 8 percent of all mobile PC shipments worldwide.
The mobile PC market is a very fragmented market, including a variety of devices such as tablets. Overall, the market grew to an impressive 55 million units sold during the last quarter of 2010, but many analysts expect this number to remain flat, as tablets are expected to cannibalize a large portion of this market within the years to come.
